“The lotus flower is a reminder of the beauty that comes from change, the magic that a new beginning brings, and the seed of potential that’s buried in the most unlikely places.” – J.W.

Designed in Australia by Mel Harrison.

Materials needed:
Approximately 100g, 400m of
4ply/fingering weight yarn depending on the desired length and width. Example used Mahogany Turtle hand dyed 4ply ‘everyday’ merino in Earthling.
Skeins are available here: http://mahoganyturtle.com.au/product/earthling-everyday-m...

If you would like to use 8ply/DK weight yarn a 200m skein will make a lovely size cowl with 7 repeats. I used a 5mm hook and started with 120 stitches. DK weight example is shown in blue.

Stitch marker (optional)

Wool/darning needle.

2.5cm button.

Hook Size: 4mm

Gauge Swatch:Gauge is achieved by working a 5cm swatch in back loop only double crochet 5cm= 11sts x 5 rows

Fit:The lotus cowl is a very tall fitted cowl. It is designed to use a full skein of hand dyed yarn. It has a generous scrunch factor when worn perfect for keeping out the winter chill. The button band will scrunch it down making it easier to pop on and off.
It is worked from the bottom up so please keep that in mind when using gradients as the colour you start with will be at the bottom of your cowl.
If you would prefer to make your cowl shorter you can do so by stopping at any point you feel the height of your cowl is sufficient.
If you would like to make the width of your cowl wider you can do so by adding extra sets of 30 to your foundation chain and repeating the pattern repeats to suit.
