Lovey – Little Caterpillar (+ rattle)

You’re looking for a gift for a new baby? Then I’ve got a quick to crochet eye-catcher with smile-guarantee for you:

A cute lovey in shape of a little caterpillar on its leaf.

The little caterpillar can easily be made into a longer rattle-variant or toy for grabbing. The instructions are included within this pattern. :)

The caterpillar and the leaf’s structured fabric are beautiful for little hands and animate to touch and grab.

The leaf can be made with or without the bite-holes.

All steps are explained in detail in words and pictures, so this pattern is suitable for beginners as well.
This pattern contains 15 pages of crochet instructions & 17 pages of detailed step-by-step instructions.

Here single crochet, double crochet, increases and (invisible) decreases are used.
The items are crocheted in continuous rounds/spirals (caterpillar), as well as back and forth in rows (leaf).

From tip to stalk the leaf is ca. 25 cm long and 15 cm wide (with 3.0 mm hook and Puppets Lyric 8/4 yarn or Catania Originals).
With aforementioned yarns the little caterpillar is about 8 cm long and the rattle-version about 12 cm long (with 2.0 mm & 2.5 cm hooks).
For the leaf you’ll need about 18 - 26 g of yarn.
For the caterpillar/s about 15 – 19 g.

With lighter/heavier yarn the figures will get smaller/bigger. The amounts of yarn needed change accordingly.

Additional to the yarn you need 1 pair of 6 mm security eyes per caterpillar, and a 24 mm rattle-ball (with holes) for the rattle-variant.
