Lyrata is a flowing semi-circular shawl with a mesmerising textured lace pattern which expands as it ripples toward the outer edge.

The knit/purl stitch pattern is worked both sides, however all the lace is worked on the right side only, to keep the knit as relaxing as possible.

  • The pattern includes some flexibility as to yardage. Several sections can be skipped to use less yarn, or be repeated to use more. If you still have yarn left at the end, you can also extend the last few rows. Adapts to a range of approx 600m/650y to 900m/990y of lace to fingering weight yarn, or more if adding extra wedges.

  • The design suits lace to fingering yarn, in solid, semi-solid, gradient or subtle speckle varieties.

  • Gauge and needles will vary with yarn weight. Pictured shawl used 780m (850y) Vivid Fiber Art Lux, on 3.25mm (US size 4) needles and measures 150x65cm (60x26in) after blocking

  • The design can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with some notes.

My profound thanks to everyone who has bought this pattern. Amazingly, I’ve been able to donate the first $200 to The Ocean Cleanup already!
(Note that a large percentage of a pattern’s sales typically occur in its first few weeks. I’ll continue to make donations as the amount reaches a round number.)

Update, June 2022: After 3 years, this pattern has raised $410 for The Ocean Cleanup. Thank you to every single person who contributed! I’ll now close this fundraiser to focus on other things, however I encourage you to have a look at The Ocean Cleanup project and their amazing work.
