The sweater is constructed from the top down beginning with the back shoulders and back neck cast on. Stitches are then picked up to form the front shoulders and front neckline. Once the depth of the upper arm is reached the sweater is joined to be knit in the round. Sleeve stitches are also picked up to be knit in the round.
