Inspired by the Mandy Moore and Leanne Prain’s book, Yarn Bombing, and in honor of Worldwide Knit in Public Day, I wanted to take my knitting outside. Yes, outside the box.
Looking around my yard, I realized my mailbox looked awfully lonely; I don’t get much snail mail these days. Starting with a UFO – an abandoned scarf – I decided to repurpose it as a Mailbox Cozy. (Don’t you just love up-cycling?) After shortening the scarf to fit my mailbox, I picked up stitches along each of the longer edges, and worked stockinette stitch in both directions. I added garter stitch flaps to straddle the post beneath, and stitched the cozy together along the bottom left edge. You can follow my lead, or create your own version using yarn from your stash. Any combination of colors and stitches will work, so long as you size your knitting to fit your mailbox.
