This classic knitted hat and mitt set is a great project for everyone on your list. The hat is worked in stockinette from the bottom up, with wide ribbing and an optional pompom. (But why would you skip the pom pom!?) Mittens are worked from the cuff, with somewhat unusual thumb gusset shaping.
