ch(s) - chain(s), sc - single crochet, sc2tog - single crochet TWO together (decrease), sc3tog – single crochet THREE together (de-crease), st(s) - stitch(es), sl st – slip stitch

This pattern uses a stitch called the Rocking Stitch, which is a combination of ch1 spaces and sc2tog/sc3tog stitches. No additional techniques are required.

Using some kind of stitch marker to mark the beginning of each row will help being able to tell where the end of the NEXT row is (when determining how many sts are left in your row).
