Margot Fenring wasn’t actually an antagonist in Dune, I am just lumping her with her husband Hasimir Fenring. She left the encoded message warning Lady Jessica of a danger to Paul within their new house on Arakis. Margot’s sock is symbolic of her Bene Gesserit abilities; the wrapped stitches on each side of the sock are her hypno-ligation abilities as she hypnotically binds Feyd Rautha to do her bidding, the center slipped stitches are the hummed speech she and Hasimir use to secretly communicate. The sock is meant to be visibly attractive, but have darker motives underneath. This is a great pattern for hiding those oddly pooling yarns for the sole, or a darker yarn to hide staining. Two colors of yarn are used every round on the foot by working intarsia in the round. Sock is worked toe up to a Fleegle heel, the cuff is then continued in one color in the round until the striped cuff.
