We regularly visit another city that has outlawed plastic shopping bag. I accumulated a collection of poorly constructed cheap bags, but I wanted a sturdy market bag. I designed these bags to be durable and machine washable. The bags are created with 2 strands of Sugar ‘n Creme, Peaches ‘n Creme or similar cotton yarn, worked in one piece, starting with a crochet base, picking up stitches and knitting in the round for the sides and handle, having just 2 ends to work in. Sturdy and practical, great for gift giving and making set for yourself.

The medium bag will hold 2 boxes of Ritz crackers, the large bag will hold 2 gallons of milk. The wine bags hold a single bottle of wine. The Easter bags will hold a small amount of toys and treats. I include a “recipe” for making custom bag of a size of your choosing.

– 1 pound cone for each larger bag. The smaller of the first two bags will not use the entire 1 pound cone, there will be enough yarn to make about 4 dishcloths in the case of the smaller bag. The wine bag uses about 4 ½ oz of Sugar ‘n Cream, about 2 skeins of solid colors, you might need a bit more if making with the ombres, stripes, twists or naturals . The Easter bag uses 6 ½ oz of Sugar ‘n Cream, about 3 skeins, more if not working with solid colors.
