The busy cable pattern reminds of the rover tracks left on the Mars sands. The Mars rover is a step into the future, but the crochet technique and the rustic wool used to make this project are a step back into very old days.
This is the magic and the inspiration here: the past meets the future.

The shawl starts with one chain point which grows progressively into the width and the length of the desired size. The cable pattern might seem complicated, but just after few rows of practice it won’t require much of the attention.

The Mars Rover shawl is meant to be large and cozy, however its final size can be easily adjusted. Yardage for the full size shawl:
mt. / 1450 yards of fingering or light DK natural wool.

I encourage you strongly to research your local wool markets and use local wool production, so to make this project more meaningful.
