This cozy cardigan is the perfect way to add some vintage charm to any outfit. Mary Mead features a delightful combination of columns of garter stitch and eyelets and is knit from the top down, seamlessly. The upper back is knit first, and the upper fronts are picked up from the cast-on edge. The fronts and back are joined when stitches for the underarms are added. Waist shaping is hidden in the panels of garter stitch, making the sweater quite fitted without losing any of the eyelet columns. Once the body is completed, stitches for are picked up around the armholes, and sleeves are knit from the top down using short rows to create the sleeve cap. Like the body, the shaping for the sleeves is hidden in the panels of garter stitches. The sample is shown in an alpaca and wool blend yarn, and the drape of the yarn helps the garter stitch behave itself. The cardigan fits best with 0-3 inches of negative ease.
