This pattern was designed with the intention of being knitted with variegated yarn. The different panels of the shawl are meant to break up the color in different ways, to each display the color combinations to really show off that special skein of hand-dyed yarn. The pattern is also great for handspun yarn, not only because it will show off the colors, but also because you can knit this pattern with as much yarn as you have - you can easily start the edging at any time.

If you’re knitting this shawl with a solid or semisolid color, don’t worry! A single color will make the texture pop in the shawl and will still look fantastic.

A single 4-oz skein of fingering weight yarn will make a shawlette, or you can simply continue with a 2nd skein to make a larger shawl, or use any amount in between.
