Sunshine lights up the bright new leaves, the grass is a brilliant green, and the flowers finally have the courage to show their blossoms. The sun is warm on your bare skin, already holding the promise of summer’s glare. But, for now, there is a light, pleasant breeze and you don’t yet have to forgo the handknits. The vivid beauty of the day calls for a special accessory – an airy, lustrous cowl to echo the radiance of the world around you.

Massey Cowl is worked in the round from the bottom up in a lace and cable pattern, and is suitable for your favourite DK weight yarn, especially silk blends. The open pattern and lovely drape make it perfect for spring and summer. Choose from two sizes – the small is a still-quite-generous loose loop, and the large is a dramatic cowl that can also be worn as a capelet.

Suggested Yarns: Malabrigo Silky Merino (51% silk/49% Merino, 150 yd/137 m per 1.76 oz/50 g), Small sample shown in Bobby Blue;
Colour Adventures Silky DK (50% Merino/50% silk, 231 yd/211 m per 3.53 oz/100 g), Large sample shown in Petals;

or other DK weight yarn that blocks well and preferably has some silk content.

Yardage: 300 (620) yd/274 (567) m.

Gauge: 17 sts and 28 rnds = 4”/10 cm in lace and cable stitch pattern; 22 sts = 4”/10 cm in stockinette.
Gauge is not crucial to this project, but will affect finished size and yardage.

US 5/F/3.75 mm crochet hook (for drawstring for size Large only).
