This pattern is for Maurice the gardening mole, complete with his jacket, boots, hat, trowel, watering can and plant!

The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.

You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used aran weight yarn for my project (equivalent to light worsted weight / weight 3) and my finished mole measures approximately 19cm tall. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both the mole and the clothes to ensure that they will fit.

For the mole (pages 4 - 10), you will need the following colours:

  • Main mole colour - I used dark grey (approx. 84.5m).
  • Nose & feet colour - I used light pink (approx. 17m).

For the clothes & accessories (pages 11 - 19), you will need the following colours:

  • Jacket colour - I used yellow (approx. 56m).
  • Boots & hat colour - I used dark green (approx. 18.5m).
  • Watering can & trowel blade colour - I used light grey (approx. 26m).
  • Trowel handle & soil colour - I used brown (approx. 3.5m).
  • Flower petals colour - I used orange (approx. 2m).
  • Flower stem colour - I used light green (approx. 2m).
  • Plant pot colour - I used dark grey (approx. 6m).

Please Note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

  • A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
  • A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
  • Some toy stuffing.
  • A small amount of black finer yarn or thread for adding the mole’s mouth and eyelids.
  • A button for fastening the jacket. The one I used was 20mm in diameter.
  • If you would like your mole to have glasses you will need some thick craft wire - I used 2mm craft wire. This step is optional and not recommended if you are making this item for a child.
  • Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you
