Meant to Be is meant to be on your shoulders, as it is meant to be on mine. The slightly curved shape means it will stay on, with or without a shawl pin. A quick knit, this shawlette is a wonderful way to show off a favorite yarn. Easy to learn stitch patterns make this shawlette an appropriate project for beginners, while the interesting construction will keep experienced knitters engaged. After all, beautiful yarn knit in a lovely design is simply Meant to Be!

Row-by-row instructions and charts for the stitch patterns are provided.

The sample was knit in a 85% wool, 10 % silk, 5% cashmere blend. Any DK yarn with a slight drape will work. Yarn with less “memory” and a tendency to stretch may lengthen with wear.

The finished shawlette measures 8 in (20.5 cm) X 48 in (122 cm) tip to tip on the border and 23 in (58.5 cm) on the inside neck edge, across curved shape. Modifications to lengthen the shawlette to 64 in (162.5 cm) are included.

Meant to Be is constructed from side to side starting with 3 stitches at the tip of the first diamond. The largest number of stitches on the needles at one time is 47. Short rows are worked on the back along the transition between the net section and the stockinette section to create a slightly curved shape. The short rows use no wraps since the hole created by the turn disappears into the net stitch.
