I was trying out a new way (to me) to purl, so decided to practice it by knitting up a project. This pattern is the result - a stretch of 5 stitches of purl between simple medallions. The medallions, though, have an interesting decrease between the openwork yarnovers, which add a bit of texture.

Altogether, this was an easy hat to knit up. The pattern is readily memorized, and does not need to much attending once it is figured out. The structure of the medallions with swaths of purl between make this, in reality, a ribbed hat, so it is very stretchy, and easily fits me, and my husband, without any sense of being too snug.

I used about 2/3 of a skein of Cascade 220 worsted weight wool. Gauge is approximate.
