This is a new version of my Spanish Dancing socks with a mid-calf length added to the pattern and a video tutorial for the Bulgarian Cast On technique.

PDF includes a story entitled, “The Lace Stockings of Spanish Charra Dancers.”

Socks are for dancing. These socks, inspired by those worn by Charra dancers in Salamanca, Spain, are decorated elaborately with bobbles and lace. In some of the photos of dancers I’ve seen the socks looked baggy on the leg, and I’ve designed mine to mimic this, using larger needles and an openwork pattern. I’ve incorporated ribbing in the ankle and used smaller needles on the foot to provide a snug fit inside shoes. The bobbles are worked only on the leg, but the lace motif is repeated on the center of the foot for added interest.

The socks are meant to fit the foot snugly with negative ease and to fit the ankle loosely.
