A sideways knit, cabled cowl which is made extra soft and scrunchy by dropping stitches between wide ribs. Melony is cast on provisionally, and finished by grafting the first and last rows to create a seamless circle. Fitted to hug the neck, but stretchy enough to be comfortable, Melony makes you looks chic and stay warm when it’s chilly. Part of the Very Chic series.

Techniques & Skills Used: provisional CO, knit/purl, cables, dropped stitches, chart reading, grafting or optional 3-needle BO. This pattern contains both full written and charted instructions, and a photo tutorial for grafting cables.

Size: 6” tall and 18” circumference unstretched, after gentle steam blocking.

Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Worsted (100% merino wool, 210 yards); 1 skein, Polar Morn.

Other Materials:
US 9 needle.
Cable needle.
Stitch markers (3 optional).
Waste yarn for provisional CO.
Crochet hook to help with raveling stitches.
5 non-slippery US 9 dpns or straight needles, preferably two different colors, for grafting.
Yarn needle.

Gauge: 16 st and 20 rows/4” in stockinette st; one cable is approximately 2.5” wide, measured flat after blocking.
