Have fun with a diagonal construction and slipped stitches while making this graphic striped hat in contrasting colors. It’s worked flat in the beginning, on an angle starting at the front, until joining in the round to come together in back - this is a design that will make perfect sense once you get going, but will never bore even the experienced knitter!

There is an optional crocheted edging, which will prevent the edge from curling up; if you don’t want the crochet edge, there is a variation with a ribbed front which will also prevent curling (shown in the navy and gray example).

The pattern is both charted and written completely, so you can choose to work from whichever you prefer.

Hat size is determined by gauge; needle size and gauge listed above is for smallest size.

Sizes: circumference - 20 (21, 22)“ / 51 (53.5, 56) cm; height - 6 1/2 (6 3/4, 7)” / 16.5 (17, 18) cm; intended to be worn with 1” / 2.5 cm negative ease.

Gauges:
-Size 20” / 51 cm: 22 sts and 45 rows = 4” / 10 cm in garter stitch; 23.5 sts and 30.5 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
-Size 21” / 53.5 cm: 21 sts and 41 rows = 4” / 10 cm in garter stitch; 22 sts and 29 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
-Size 22” / 56 cm: 20 sts and 37 rows = 4” / 10 cm in garter stitch; 20.5 sts and 27.5 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
