“Meril” is the Elvish word for Rose. I was inspired to this name by the delicate shape of the lacy pattern. In Tolkien’s world of Middle-earth Rose was the wife of Samwise Gamgee, the loyal servant and friend of Frodo Baggins. Sam fell in love with Rose Cotton and after he and Frodo returned from their journey to Mount Doom he and Rose married. Together they had 13 children.

“Meril” is a beautiful scarf which can be customized in length and width as well as in the choice of yarn. Even in DK-weight yarn the pattern is still an eye-catcher, while it acts wonderfully soft and airy in lace-yarn.
Extending the report the scarf turns into a stole or wrap that fits into a delicate summer dress or evening wear.
To turn the scarf into a cowl or a loop just insert buttonholes at the start or the end of the shawl.

The shawl is worked in one piece from bottom to top.

Gauge is not necessary because the shawl can be worked in every desired width or length.
