This fits newborns under the arms, and older babies at the waist.

The tail is sewn onto the bottom.

The stitch pattern is not as difficult as it looks. It involves slipping stitches with the yarn in front, and then knitting the loop at the proper place on a subsequent round.

You may choose to knit it back-and-forth or in-the-round.

The stitch pattern is quilted lattice. There are videos on YouTube that show how.

YES! YES! YES! This is adaptable for larger sizes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had tons of requests, and I am test knitting it now! (March 2015) I am using two strands of worsted yarn (Caron Simply Soft) and a US 11 circular needle, 29 inches long, with the toddler version cast on. Bulky yarn gives the same gauge and would also work. The toddler version is already included in the files you will receive automatically. The resulting cocoon will be about 28 inches around in the chest area. So if you want a tight fit on a 5 year old, you could probably use the newborn cast on number. This pattern may also be knitted flat, and has separate instructions for that, so if you want more on a “lapghan”, you would just need to add an edging up the sides.

Message me with your email address if you would like to be added to a list to be notified when the “bigger person version” becomes available in its final form, with adjustments for length and tail size, and please mention whether you have purchased the pattern already, as there would be no further charge in that case.
