Create an imaginary underwater world with this pretty mermaid doll.

This is a great knit for improvers. We use a variety of stitches on the tail to make a pattern of shells and to add a scalloped edge to the fins.

By using a bendable hair-roller, you can make the tail posable so that the mermaid can sit, swim or stand.

Stitches used: k2tog, p2tog, kfb, kfbf, sl1k, sl1p, sl1k1psso, sl1k2togpsso

You will need:

• Wool in your choice of colours for skin, hair, tiara and bra, max 25g each, and for tail, max 50g. I used Double Knit (6-8 ply, “light worsted”.) Tension square: 10cm x 10cm square is 24 stitches across and 32 rows.

• Knitting needles – I used UK size 11 (3.0mm, US size 2.5)

• Tapestry needle

• Two toy safety-eyes, or small amount of wool to embroider eyes

• Stuffing

• Two stitch-holders

• Bendy hair-roller (optional – mine was 17cm long and 1.5cm diameter)
