Merrick is now available as a Knit Picks IDP pattern. You can find it at http://www.knitpicks.com/patterns/merrick-hat-pattern-en....

The pattern for Merrick contains both complete charted AND written instructions, so you can choose your preferred method for following it.

The Child & Adult sizes are written for worsted-weight yarn, and have been test knit in Knit Picks Swish Worsted, Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran, and Cascade 220. If you prefer to work with Fleece Artist Blue Face Leicester Aran, it works up a bit bigger. Notes are given for sizing in the Fleece Artist yarn, but note that the Child size ends up being Adult sized.

You will need 2 balls of Knit Picks Swish Worsted
or 2 balls of 50g Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran
or 1 100g skein of Cascade 220
or 1 125g skein of Fleece Artist Blue Face Leicester Aran

Notions:
stitch markers
cable needle (but it’s way more fun to knit cables without them… check out my website for a link to a great tutorial)

Needles:
size 7US, 16” circular needle for the main part of the hat, and an extra needle for small-circumference knitting (I use 2 circs, but you can use dpns or magic loop instead)

The pattern includes detailed instructions on how to work each cable.

The fit of this hat is quite nice. The cables make it stretchy and springy, so each size fits a range of heads. If in doubt with older children (whose heads are already 22” in circumference), go up a size.

As always, I’d love to hear from you! If you have any questions or comments about any of my patterns, send me a message here on Ravelry, on my Facebook page, on Twitter @aknitica, or leave a comment on www.aknitica.com.
