A new, revised version of this pattern was added 3/24/17. If you purchased before this date, please download the new version. It now has easier to follow row-by-row directions as well as a row guide with stitch counts to help you keep track of your progress!

This stunning, modern shawl design featuring a lace mesh stripe pattern can be made from as little as one 50 gram ball of lace weight yarn.

The sample shown is made from just one skein of lace weight yarn to produce a small “shawlette,” perfect for warm weather and an indulgent luxury yarn. Use 2 or more skeins to make a larger, longer shawl, or try fingering weight for a cool weather accessory.

The asymmetrical shawl is worked from side to side: the point of the right “wing” is the cast on edge, and the shortest side is the cast off stitches. The width increases at the beginning of every right side row only, which forms the asymmetrical triangle and causes the fabric to bias. The bias makes the stitches lean, adding interest to the design with no extra effort at all!
