I just found the pattern for this published online for free. I don’t know if it’s authorized by the publisher or not. I also don’t know if the pattern is missing any info. Just FYI.

I posted this design because it is made with a special stitch featured in a recent Vashti’s Crochet Inspirations newsletter issue (issue #6, Nov. 11, 2010). You can see the whole issue here: http://eepurl.com/bzO8z

This was my very first published crochet design. I don’t actually recommend it as a laptop bag--it came out too big. However it’s so strong and durable that I continue to use it to this day as weekend luggage. I can’t imagine a better crochet stitch than this whatchamacallit stitch (double-faced, double single, thermal, potholder, Helena’s, etc).

Also, this stitch in this yarn was fun, and if the assembly involved something other than crocheting suede lacing, the assembly would be more fun too. My favorite feature is the inside mesh pocket.

If:
1) the number of stitches in the strap were reduced slightly so that it’s a bit narrower, and
2) if the seaming were done with something other than suede lacing, and perhaps 2 solid rounds of edging does instead of one, then I could recommend this pattern to someone nowadays.
