Follow the chart. Yarn weight and needle size do not matter. I made this baby blanket for a church craft fair and it turned out really nice. I made the pattern myself.
The blank squares are in white and then rest of the pattern is self explanatory. I worked this all on single crochet. I also added a border after the main blanket was finished.

This blanket does comes out small which is why I added the border. If made according to the pattern, it makes a great stroller blanket that won’t drag on the ground.

If you want to make it larger, you can always use two strands of yarn held together and use a larger hook.

You can also add a large border like I did.
