One of my favorite movies of the 1920s is the silent film Metropolis, directed by Fritz Lang. A feast of Art Deco imagery set in a futuristic dystopia of warring classes, it is one of the most imaginative and inspiring movies of the era. The strong, clear lines of its design and cinematography and the unworldly beauty of the automaton at the center of the story were the inspiration for these mitts.
