The Midge Pullover is a cute and casual vintage style pullover. It was designed to have a relaxed, comfortable fit with ¾ length sleeves and a slightly cropped look that suits both vintage and modern wardrobes.

It’s a seamless, top down knit with a modified drop shoulder construction, and minimal shaping. It’s a fast and easy knit, with clear, detailed instructions.

With two necklines options and stripes or solid, there’s 4 great looks in one pattern!

If you’d like a more modern boxy fit, size up for more ease than recommended. Or size down for a more fitted look. Plus there’s plenty of customization tips in the pattern, to help make Midge your new favorite pullover!

Sizing & Fit

Choose a size that is approx. 2 – 6” / 5 – 15cm larger than your full bust. Pullover designed to hit at high hip. More ease may be recommended; see below!

Sizes: 32 (34, 37, 40) [43, 45, 48, 51] (55, 57, 60, 64)” /
81.5 (86.5, 94, 101.5) [109, 114.5, 122, 129.5] (139.5, 145, 162.5]cm

Shown with 2” / 5cm positive ease at bust and 11” / 28cm positive ease at waist, for a relaxed fit through entire body. All samples are shown on a body with 9” / 23cm difference between full bust and waist.

If you have a much smaller difference between full bust and waist or belly, and you would like a similar fit as shown, size up as needed to make sure you have several inches of positive ease in the bust and midsection.

However, Midge is also lovely with a closer fit through the body! See test knitter Lizzie’s (aka Killer Kitsch Lizzie) version here, which was also lengthened one stripe.

A bit about yarn and gauge…

Midge was designed with airy, textured yarns in mind that knit up close to a worsted stitch gauge but may be classified as lighter weight. The pattern gives thorough tips on how to make adjustments if your row gauge is off, which may happen if substituting types of yarn, as you may not get as many rows per inch with smoother actual-worsted weight yarns.

For a somewhat similar airy feel, try two strands of a textured laceweight or a woolen spun yarn, or for a smooth yarn, try DK weight. Or go denser with a worsted, for a less drapey and more structured look. The pattern is written in a way to make gauge changes relatively easy with the simple shaping.

Gauge
16 st / 28 rows = 4” / 10cm in stockinette st using 4mm (US 6) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions
-Locking st markers
-Scrap yarn, to place sts on hold

Techniques needed

cast on, bind off, knit in the round and flat, knit, purl, basic increases and decreases, picking up stitches, changing colors, reading a basic chart.
