Introducing Midnight Madness :: an oversized cape with a dramatic brioche triangle motif, surrounded by two-color garter stitch stripes and two-color brioche borders.

This cape is worked seamlessly from the bottom back up to the neckband, then the front panels are worked.

Skill level: Beginner - Intermediate. Basic two color brioche skills are not required. Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), simple brioche increases and decreases.

Size: (measured after blocking)
One size: Back measures 40” / 101.6cm wide by 32” / 81.3cm depth, measured from the top of shoulders down. Front panels each measure 15” / 38.1cm wide by 30” / 76.2cm depth, measured from top of shoulders down. Sizing and schematic in pattern.

Yarn: 2,200 yds / 2011.68 meters DK weight (see note)
Main color (MC): 1,100yds / 1,015m light Worsted wt.
Contrast color (CC): 1,100yds / 1,015m DK wt.

Note: Shepherd’s Wool is a light worsted weight yarn, and therefore much closer to DK weight. Feel free to substitute DK weight for the Main Color, but be sure to knit a gauge swatch to ensure proper fit and drape of fabric. Heather from House of A La Mode creates such fabulous yarn !

Needles: 40” long US 7 / 4.5mm circular needle. Circular needles are used for brioche knitting and to accommodate large number of stitches.

Tools: tapestry needle, row counter, 6 stitch markers for dividing sections / borders

Gauge: 20 sts x 24 rows = 4” / 10cm; measured in two-color garter stitch (taken after blocking; swatch instructions included with pattern)
