The main motif in this shawl is the Wings of the Swan pattern from Barbara Walker’s A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns. I offset the columns of wings so that they formed a zigzag pattern instead of a string of diamonds.

Unfortunately, I got cocky and did not knit a swatch of the corners, assuming they would block out the way I envisioned them. They did not. Rather than ripping out the entire shawl and reknitting it, I designed the corners and knit a large swatch to test them out. I learned my lesson, at least for the time being. This pattern has charts for both the original design and the reworked version; the body of the shawl, Chart 2, is the same for both. The number of stitches to be cast on is different for the two versions. Cast on 110 stitches for the original version and 139 stitches for the redesigned version.

I made it with a hand spun lace yarn but I think it would work well for most lace to light fingering weight yarns.

Warning - the pattern has not been test knitted by anyone other than myself so there may be errors. Please let me know if you find any and I will post a corrected version. Thanks.
