YARNS & GAUGES & MACHINES
#1 weight stretch sock yarn. Patons Stretch Sock Yarn is recommended. This yarn may also be sold as fingering weight or 3 ply in the UK and Australia, 3 fadig in Germany. Normally 2-3mm needles would be recommended if hand knitting. #2 yarn stretch sock yarn also known as 4 ply, 6 fadig and with recommendations for 3-4mm needles if hand knitted. DO NOT substitute non-stretch yarn in the pattern. The sizing and gauge as well as the ability to get infant feet comfortably into the socks is tied to the stretch of the yarn. 4 gauges plus adjustment info for imperfect gauges. All gauges are taken after washing and drying the fabric which does make a difference. This pattern is for standard gauge machines only. No ribber is required but I have provided instructions for working in the round that make use of the ribber at the end of the pattern.
