A quirkily sweet sweater for the little folks in your life, Mini Sólja is knitted in DK weight yarn from the bottom up. It incorporates an easy eyelet lace body leading into a stranded colourwork yoke inspired by the vibrant embroidered necklines of Guatemalan and Mexican huipil and the slightly more subdued yokes of 1960s Fair Isle cardigans. Corrugated ribbing at the hem and cuffs give you additional opportunity to play with colours children look so good in. Sólja gets its name from the Faroese national flower, the yellow marsh marigold, which heralds the arrival of spring. Indeed it was my quest for the perfect yellow which led me to knitting this sweater in Navia, a yarn from the Faroe Islands.

This pattern first appeared in adult sizes only in PomPom Quarterly, Issue 8, in Spring 2014 and is now available as an individual pattern. Buy both Sólja and Mini Sólja together and get a 25% discount.

SIZING
Mini people vary so much in their dimensions, but you can think of these sizes loosely as Size 1: Baby (up to 1 year), Size 2: Toddler (1–3 years old), Size 3: Child (4–6 years old), and Size 4: Big Kid (7–9 years old).

Finished Chest Measurement: 53 (63, 74, 84)cm / 20¾ (24¾, 29, 33¼)” – to be worn with at least 2.5–5 cm / 1–2” positive ease or plenty of room to grow.

YARN COLOUR QUANTITIES
A (hems & cuffs): 1 ball
B (hems & cuffs): 1 ball
C (body): 2 (3, 4, 6) balls
D (yoke): 1 ball
E (big flower): 1 ball
F (little flower): 1 ball

Body, hems, cuffs and yoke knitted in different combinations of Light Grey (32), Medium Grey (33), Denim Blue (339), Navy Blue (324) and Curry (336)
Colourwork Flowers worked in Cerise (326), Red (314), Burgundy (327)

Note: All colourways include a ball of Curry (336) at least for the hearts of the flowers. Unless using for the main body colour, 1 ball of Curry is enough to knit the heart of the flowers and the hems and cuff as well, if that works in your colourway choice. If using Curry for the body, no additional ball is needed if also using for hearts of flowers.
