Miranda is a shallow triangular shaped shawlette knit from the bottom up. Shaping is achieved by using short rows. Miranda is designed for two colors but could easily be knit in just one. Warning!!! - This shawlette requires an enormous number of stitches when casting on as it is worked from the bottom up.

Directions are written only.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Miranda is designed to be knit in any yarn from laceweight to fingering weight. Because yardage is minimal, this pattern would be ideal for using up leftovers from other projects. Roughly 200 yards (view projects already made for better yardage estimates!) of two coordinating colors or 400 yards of a single color is required. If you want to use variegated yarn, it is suggested that the complementing skein be mostly solid colored. If you are an extremely loose knitter, plan on either going down a needle size (or two) or have extra yarn available just in case!
  • Needles: Size US 5 (3.75 mm) needle or size needed to get desired fabric (if using fingering weight it is suggested you increase to a US 6). Recommended minimum length of no less than 32”. Optional needles of one size larger for cast on.
  • Stitch markers (not optional)

Optional Materials:

  • 96 Beads in a contrasting color - size 8/0 if using lace or light fingering weight, size 6/0 if using fingering weight
  • Crochet hook/floss/method of choice if you choose to use beads

Gauge: This shawlette is designed to have an open and flowing nature so directions call for it to be knit at a loose gauge using larger than normal needles for this size yarn. Gauge is not critical in this pattern. If you are concerned about running out of yarn, it is suggested that you do a swatch in stockinette and make sure your gauge is between 4 to 6 stitches by 6 rows per inch, blocked.

Final dimensions: around 50” long by 20” deep (all testers achieved these dimensions or greater)
