A simple cowl with an elongated front piece to keep the décolleté warm and cozy without adding bulk to the back side of the neck, this accessory is perfect for collarless jackets and open front cardigans: like a turtle neck that can be taken off indoors.

The neckpiece is worked with both yarns held together in an accelerated broken rib stitch, that not only gets less dense before the cowl part, but also uses more of the MC yarn held single, so that the colour changes ever so slightly until the lighter, elongated piece worked with one yarn only. Short-rows are applied to achieve a soft rounded shape on the bottom part of the lower section, while a decorative cable is running down in the centre for more visual interest.

MissBrummell was inspired by the first and most famous fashionable dandy of the 19th century, who introduced the elaborated necktie as a stand out piece in his understated elegant attire.

A big Grazie to Michela LaMicky for translating this pattern into Italian!
Et un grand merci à Patricia patamodeler pour la traduction en Français!

Sizing
One size.
Finished measurements (given for unworn cowl (not stretched):
Circumference neck: 41 cm / 16 inches
Length neckpiece: 19 cm / 7½ inches
Width of lower cowl part: 27 cm / 10½ in.
Length of lower cowl part: 16 cm / 6 inches
Total length: 35 cm / 13½ inches
If you consider making a larger size than the one in the pattern and don’t want to calculate, you could use the CC yarn held double together with the MC yarn (3 strands) and a larger needle size to gain more width at the neckpiece. You’d need double the amount of CC in this case.

Yarn:
Malabrigo Arroyo 100% merino (305m or 335yards/100gr): 1 skein colourway 131 Sand Bank (MC) or approximately 80 gr, 268 yards or 245 m.
…or any other Sport weight yarn at 305m or 335yards/100gr which gives you the proper gauge.

Please keep in mind that yardage is an estimate
