In the show Outlander, the heroine Claire shows a distinct fondness for cowls. With this in mind, I designed Mistress Beauchamp’s Cowl, a companion piece to Mistress Beauchamp’s Mitts, another of my designs. It is meant to show off that one skein of spectacular hand dyed worsted weight yarn.

Like the mitts, the cowl has a cable border that is knit on sideways, with an i-cord edge. Unlike the mitts, however, this cowl has the border both on the top and the bottom! This is achieved by a provisional cast on, which is taken out and another border knitted on. Your final cowl has NO BOUND OFF STITCHES and only 36 cast on stitches.

The finished cowl, blocked, was 25 inches around and 7 inches tall. You could easily adjust the size of the cowl to make it bigger or smaller.

ERRATA: Version 1 had an error in the Weight Check section 3. The update has fixed this.
