These baby boots are worked in one piece using six mitred squares and two triangles. There are no seams to sew. The squares and triangles are picked up from those around them. The cuff is worked in the round. The different sizes are made by using three different thicknesses of yarn.

Finished Sizes -
Size 1 using sock yarn - foot is 9cm (3½in) long and 5cm (2in) deep.
Size 2 using 4ply yarn - foot is 12.5cm (5in) long and 6.5cm (2½in) deep.
Size 3 using DK yarn- foot is 15cm (6in) long and 7.5cm (3in) deep.

Yarn - Use any type of yarn, commercial or handspun, that matches the stitch tension stated below. Use a yarn that shows stitches clearly; the squares are joined by picking up stitches.
Variegated, multi-coloured, or hand painted yarns will emphasise the different directions of knitting. Solid colours will emphasise the texture.
Size 1 using sock yarn - stitch tension of 30 sts to 10cm (4in) - length of yarn needed approx. 70m (76yds).
Size 2 using 4ply yarn - stitch tension of 28 sts to 10cm (4in) - length of yarn needed approx. 80m (87yds).
Size 3 using DK yarn - stitch tension of 22 sts to 10cm (4in) - length of yarn needed approx. 90m (98yds).

Needles
Size 1 using sock yarn - a set of five 2.5mm double-pointed needles.
Size 2 using 4ply yarn - a pair of 3.25mm needles and a set of five 3mm double-pointed needles.
Size 3 using DK yarn - a pair of 4mm needles and a set of five 3.25mm double-pointed needles.

Tension
Size 1 using sock yarn - one mitred square of 21 sts should measure 4.5cm (1¾in) square.
Size 2 using 4ply yarn - one mitred square of 21 sts should measure 6.5cm (2½in) square.
Size 3 using DK yarn - one mitred square of 21 sts should measure 7.5cm (3in) square.

Stitches used
Cast on, knit, purl, picking up stitches (diagram), decreasing - sl1-k2tog-psso, k2tog, k2tog tbl (diagrams).
