Like interesting mitten thumbs? This pattern can also be bought as part of the Fun Thumbs ebook, with 3 novel thumb constructions that I have cooked up especially.

Knitting mittens is that delightful combination of me-time and generosity. I get to nurture myself with knitting time and provide mittens to protect my family all winter long. These mittens come in a range of sizes to suit most requirements AND feature a novel and rather lovely thumb construction variation which gives an adorable “jointed” shape that mimics the shape of your thumb. Add to that extra long cuffs with wrist shaping and you have a great mitten that keeps you warm and dry all winter long.

About the thumb & construction
This mitten is knit bottom up in the round. The thumb is a variation on a standard thumb that creates a “goreless” effect for minimal interruption to the pattern (i.e. the increases are not visible on the back of hand and,in fact, travel up the thumb itself). The effect is to create a slightly biased fabric on the thumb that also mimics the jointed shape of the thumb for an anatomically correct shape.
