Note I am working on making adjustments for more consistent fit, and to add gauge. The pdf says to use US 3s, but for now I have updated this page to suggest 2s instead and will be updating the pdf shortly. See below.**

This hat is an attempt to recreate the hat Darcy wears in the movie Thor: The Dark World. Mjolnir is pronounced β€œmyohl-neer” (unless you are Darcy, who pronounces it β€œmew meow”).

The original hat (pictured) was knitted on size 1 needles with Malabrigo Sock. I have a tiny head (just under 21”) and this hat fits snugly. I did some aggressive blocking before taking photos, but for a larger circumference or a looser fit, I strongly suggest using a larger needle with heavier fingering yarn. The PDF pattern suggests US 2 needles and a heavier yarn such as Malabrigo Arroyo, any of the Buggas or Tosh Pashmina, but since I knit the original with Mal Sock on 1s I was unable to provide gauge for the pattern.

I will be reknitting the pattern shortly to provide a gauge.

The 1x1 ribbing on the brim provides a squishy, elastic fit around the base of the hat, but the zig zag pattern has very little give and very little elasticity, so if you want a fitted look, err on the smaller side for needles and yarn but if you want a loose, slouchy hat, err on the larger side and go for heavy fingering on US 2 needles.

If you want a snug hat, stick with the US 1.5 needles and a light fingering like Malabrigo Sock.

My hat measured 7” (including the brim) when I started the crown decrease section.
