Mock Cable Mitts
Name was Twisted Rib/Eyelet Mock Cable - Fingerless Bared Thumb Mittens
Introduction
These mittens are knitted flat using 2 different sized needles and then seamed afterwards.
The cuff - knitted on the smaller needles - is created using a two row Twisted Rib (or Right Twist) pattern. After working 3½”, the number of stitches, on the last row is increased by 10 for the main body of the mitten. This section is knitted, on the larger sized needles, using a 4-row Eyelet Mock Cable (or Coin Stitch) pattern. The number of stitches, on the 1st row, for this pattern, will decrease by 1 stitch for each cable or “coin” but will subsequently increase by 1 stitch for each cable or “coin” on the 2nd row.
For the main body (top of the cuff i.e. the wrist, to around 1 1/2” - 2” from the tip of the little finger) 1 stitch is increased at the beginning and end of every 4 rows for c 2 1/2”.
At appropriate points, markers are placed on the 1st and last stitch of the rows to denote the base and top opening for the thumb. A decrease row follows the placement of the final markers (to denote the top of the thumb opening). Finally, the smaller size needles are used to make the top of the mitten in the same Twisted Rib (or Right Twist) pattern, as used for the cuff design
