Dear knitters,

oh yes, here it is, the very first pattern for the Color it!-along, the Mock Turtle Mitts!

There are six colorful and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland inspired mitts patterns in the mix and they are available as ebook and separately here on ravelry!

The Mock Turtle Mitts combine

  • simplicity
  • with a cute little fish-pattern
  • and a really unique thumb-hole

You know all those mitts with just a vertical hole for the thumb and how they tend to pucker? Smile and relax. This thumbhole is diagonal. And your thumb will fit nicely in it!

Have fun!

This is the first time I designed something with this yarn weight and yardage. Oh, the frogging! I kept doing it a whole evening until I finally found the perfect way to incorporate my little fishy friend. The secret is: keep it simple. The simpler the basic pattern, the better it will stand out. Difficult to strip this idea down and down and down - but you know what? I love this little fish. Call him Edward.

THE MOCK TURTLE MITTS

“Of course not,” said the Mock Turtle: “why, if a fish came to me, and told me he was going a journey, I should say “With what porpoise?”“
”Don’t you mean “purpose”?“ said Alice.
”I mean what I say,“ the Mock Turtle replied in an offended tone.

Lewis Carroll: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Yes, with what purpose? Good play of words. Let us always think of our porpoises when we wear the Mock Turtle Mitts :)! You start with some garter stitch, add some stockinette stitch, insert a fish and knit a unique little opening for your thumb.
