This is a modular baby blanket with a twist. There will be some traditional modular knitting squares. This includes the mitered squares, in which you decrease every other row. This happens in the middle of the row to form a mitered corner. There will also be some rest blocks with straight garter stitch. This is followed by a crocheted edging. If you do not crochet you may knit your edging by picking up stitches on one side at a time.

This is what my mind came up with when I saw a modular wash cloth from Manson Dixon Knitting and thought to myself cool, but the wash cloth needs something more. It was too big for a wash cloth but too small for anything else. It also needed to have less pick up stitches where ever possible. Can you tell I don’t like picking up the edge stitches.

I would like to thank Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne from Mason Dixon Knitting and Vivian Hoxbro for the inspiration in the pattern design.

This pattern comes in one size, but like all good recipes it can be made larger. my finished washed size was 35 inches square in 100% Cotton. Washed on normal and drying on cotton the cotton setting.

There are 30 rows and 15 stitches per 4 inches after the washer and dryer.

You will need:1 pair of U.S. Size 8 or 5 mm straight knitting needles for the center block.
1 U.S. Size 8 or 5mm by 32 inch or 80 cm circular knitting needles for the rest of the blanket.
1 U.S. Size H or 5.00 mm crochet hook for picking up stitches and the edging.
2 moveable stitch markers.
4 stitch holders
1 darning needle for the finishing work.
