Molasses in the Sky is a Mosaic- Lace combo shrug.
It comes in one size, and can be easily adjusted for a larger size- as explained in the pattern.
Measurements:
Length from cuff to cuff: 110 cm/ 43’’.
Back length: 45 cm/ 18’’.
Cuff circumference: 36 cm/ 14’’ cuff circumference.
Yarn: I have chosen to work with cotton yarn, however you can choose other fibers as well. In my opinion wool will be very suitable.
The yarn should be of lace or fingering weight (24 wpi), 470 m for 100g in two colors- MC (shown in light blue)- 470 m , and CC (shown in two different shades of brown- the darker one was used for the cuff only)- about 300 m altogether.
Gauge: 25 sts and 38 rows= 10x10 cm/ 4’’x4’’ in swatch pattern attached on p 11.
Needles:
Due to differences in mosaic gauge the mosaic parts should be worked in larger size needles.
For mosaic parts: 3.25mm/ US 3 or any other size to maintain gauge, for the rest 3mm/ US 2.5- or any other size to maintain gauge.
At the beginning work with DPN’s/ magic loop, then switch to circular needles at least 80 cm/ 32’’ long.
Materials: cable needle, waste yarn for holding stitches, stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Techniques:
- Mosaic- worked in two colors, one color is worked at a time. The pattern is created by slipping the contrasting color stitches of the row below (double-pass knitting). This is a very simple technique, suitable also for beginners. -Lace- worked in MC in between the Mosaic parts, the lace pattern is an adaptation of a few motifs from the Japanese Stitch Bible/Hitomi Shaida, and includes cable and twisted stitches work. It is best to have some experience with lace knitting before attempting this pattern.
