Size: One

Finished Measurements: Wingspan 91” (230 cm), Depth at Center Back 25” (63 cm)

Materials: 4 skeins (280 yards each, 1120 total) Old Maiden Aunt Alpaca/Silk Sport/DK, color Red, Red Rose

Needles: size 4 US (3.5 mm) long circular, size 5 US (3.75 mm) dpn for BO

Extras: 2 stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends, blocking tools

Gauge: 22 sts and 36 rows over 4” in stockinette stitch, post blocking

Be aware that any difference in gauge will change the size of your finished shawl, as well as the amount of yarn you need to knit it - more stitches to the inch will mean a smaller shawl using less yarn, and vice versa.

Notes

This shawl is worked from the center upper back out and down. It uses 2 different kinds of increases - every row increases on the edges and Pi Shawl increases in the center.

In Pi Shawls the increases happen every time the number of rows doubles, so they happen fairly often in the beginning, and once you’ve worked half of the rows there aren’t any more increases in the middle. The math of the shawl is such that when it’s time for a Pi increase the stitches that must be increased are the center third of all the stitches currently on the needle. Because the lace moves the stitches around somewhat, I recommend removing the markers when you’re in a lace section and putting them back on when you are in the preparation row for an increase. Stitch counts are detailed in the pattern.

Remember to leave yourself nice long tails so they stay put when you block.

Charts appear at the end of the pattern and should all be printed Landscape.
