I love novels with memorable descriptions of characters’ clothes and Dodie Smith’s I Capture The Castle is one of my favourites in this respect. The image of Rose Mortmain managing to look ravishing in the wardrobe she and her sister have home-dyed in shades of green is brilliant– so this cardigan is a tribute to her. A slip stitch pattern gives structure to this neat little garment with a round neck, garter stitch borders and bracelet length sleeves. Make a cute cropped version for casual style or choose the hip length version for a more classic feel. If you fancy a flash of hidden colour, knit the pocket linings in a contrasting shade.
