This warm and cozy cap was inspired by the colors of mosses and leaves in the deep forest. It is a great project for using up worsted weight stash yarn. The color palette can be changed to suit your taste and style.

The ribbed cuff is doubled up on itself so that the hat stays snugly on your head, and is particularly warm around the ears where warmth is needed most. By casting on extra stitches and using smaller needles for the cuff ribbing, you get a wonderful dense texture. The two rows of stockinette after the cuff and before switching to larger needles ensure that this ribbing does not stretch out of shape over time.

The ribbing in the crown provides extra warmth and stretchiness as well, making this the perfect hat for a walk on a cold winter day.
