This simple moss stitch border adds a touch of soft texture to any project. It’s perfect for framing afghans of all sorts without distracting from the main piece.

It’s extremely flexible! You can start with any four sided piece with any stitch count and you can repeat the pattern to make as wide or narrow of a border as you like.

Use whatever yarn you used for your afghan and a hook that is one size larger than that used to make the afghan.

Gauge is not important for this pattern.

Make pattern repeat until the desired width is reached for your border.

Starting with a stitch count of an odd number of stitches is ideal, but not required. If you have an even number of stitches on two or all four sides of your afghan after round 1, simply follow the instructions before round 2 to compensate for this.

This pattern ends with a simple round of single crochet. You can leave the edge plain or you can add a fancy crochet edge. The choice is yours!
