The design on the back of these Norwegian-style mittens represents metamorphosis- a symbol of renewal and new life- with a caterpillar, a row of five cocoons, and a moth at the top. The motif on the palm is a reminder of one of Sarah Anderson’s favorite verses from Isaiah: “… I shall not forget you. Look, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands…” Because the project was small and required only one skein of each yarn, Sarah wound each singles into a center-pull ball and plied from both ends.
