Whether you’re a mother or even a brother from another mother, if you’re interested in trying some crochet, this coaster is a good first pattern. Clear written instructions make for a satisfying experience and result in a handsome finished object you’ll be proud to say you made.

Though the pattern uses only single crochet, an optional picot edging adds challenge and includes a helpful chart.

This is the pattern I use for part one of my Absolute Beginner Crochet series at my local yarn shop. Instructors: If you plan to use this pattern in your own teaching please let me know and, if possible, ensure that each of your students download their own copy.
