As I drive through the rural area where I live, I often see old, sometimes rusted, (and I suspect obsolete) windmills. I have always been intrigued about the simple but strong silhouette that the blades of these former “power plants” offer. So, being ever open to visual inspiration it’s no wonder that this imagery finds it’s way into this shawl. So why “Moulin”? In this day and age of endless patterns – and pattern names – on the internet, the obvious name of “Windmill Shawl” has long been taken. A good friend suggested I call the shawl, Moulin – French for windmill. Voila! An easy knit, the pattern showcases simple Wrap and Turns and, hopefully, mimics what I see in my local countryside. Experimenting with different color choices can easily change the dynamics of the “blades” and offers endless possibilities for creative projects. Happy Knitting!
