The Mountain Moon shawl is a rectangle knit on the bias with panels of garter stitch stripes alternating with simple lace. It is designed for 300g of fingering weight yarn using either a 100g/3.53oz gradient with 2 other yarns, a 200g/7.05oz gradient with 1 other yarn, or a 300g (10.58oz) gradient on its own (the pattern is written for a 100g gradient with instructions for how to use larger ones). With easy customisation to different yarn weights, widths, and lengths, this pattern is also great for handspun yarn, minis, and stash-busting projects.

This design was created for the O’Reilly’s Retreat 2022 with Yarn Creative Australia and is aimed at playing with colour while enjoying a relaxing knit.

Yarn
C1 (gradient): 120g Bilum Yarns Namba2 fingering weight yarn which is 480m/525y per 120g/4.23oz (sample used 119g col. 19 Panni)
C2 (handspun/variegated/speckled): 120g Qing Yak Single fingering weight yarn which is 480m/525y per 120g/4.23oz (sample used 104g col. Panda)
C3 (solid): 120g Feltfine Merino/Silk/Yak Single fingering weight yarn which is 480m/525y per 120g/4.23oz (sample used 120g col. undeyed)

Yarn substitution: Fingering weight (4ply) yarns with approx. 400m/437yd per 100g/3.5oz are best for similar results.
